Lashley, Monson Win at March Badness
There was bad blood between Jason Guida and Bobby Lashley at the pre-fight press conference. Jason Guida, a late replacement for the suspended Ken Shamrock, repeatedly taunted Bobby Lashley. Lashley had the last laugh, however. At March Badness last night, Lashley beat Guida and took home a Unanimous Decision. Lashley, who was looking to finish his taunter, got overly aggressive one takedown and almost got submitted by a Guillotine in the third round. After a half minute, Lashley got out of the Guillotine to claim the win.
Jeff Monson defeated Roy Nelson in a very close fight that could have went either way. Surprisingly, Nelson appeared to win the ground game against the grappling star – getting full mount in the first round and taking Monson down several times. Monson, however, won the standup and landed knees successfully against Big Country to win a Unanimous 29-28 decision.
In other MMA action, Din Thomas knocked out Gabe Lemley with a knee in this Featherweight matchup. Dennis Hallman submitted Danny Ruiz via Rear Naked Choke in the first round.
The event was a hybrid MMA and boxing event. In boxing action, Roy Jones Jr. defeated Omar Sheika in one round as the referee stopped the bout. BJ Flores won a unanimous decision over Jose Luis Herrera.
