MFC Signs Aurelio to Three-Fight Deal
The Maximum Fighting Championship announced Monday the signing of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu ace Marcus Aurelio (17-7) to a three-fight contract in the lightweight division.
Aurelio, a native of Fortaleza, Brazil, now trains out of Hallandale Beach, Florida alongside fellow countryman Thiago Alves at American Top Team. He’s a black belt under the legendary Andre Pederneiras; the same man that has also produced Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu sensation BJ Penn.
The former Pride and UFC veteran brings a wealth of experience to the lightweight ranks having competed against some of the world’s top fighters including Takanori Gomi and Mitsuhiro Ishida.
Aurelio must be considered an immediate contender at 155 and undoubtedly has his eyes set on an eventual rematch with current MFC Lightweight Champion, Antonio McKee, who defeated Aurelio via split decision back in 2003.
Expect a fight announcement later this week.
Tickets for MFC 21: Hard Knocks are available through www.ticketmaster.ca or by calling 1-800-451-8000. The event will also be broadcast live in the United States on HDNet at 10pm EST.
