There have been rumors since Strikeforce purchased the assets and several contracts of fighters from Pro Elite, as discussed in this article, on whether these athletes will honor their commitments to other promotions. Two athletes, Phil Baroni and Cristiane Cyborg, have been signed to appear on the XMMA 7 card on February 27th in Montreal at the CEPSUM at the University of Montreal.  Will both Baroni and Cyborg skip the XMMA 7 show?

Scott Coker announced Cyborg has signed with Strikeforce and they are looking at a Gina Carono vs. Cristiane Cyborg matchup after signing the Brazilian powerhouse to a four fight deal.  It was announced that Cyborg would fight on one of the next two Strikeforce cards and she would not fight in XMMA.

Phil Baroni has been posting on MMA Forums promoting his May Strikeforce bout in Seattle.  He maintains his current weight is 205 lbs and it seems unlikely that he will make a 170 lb weight limit 15 days from now.

I asked XMMA Matchmaker Joey Benoit if the Strikeforce signings will affect these athletes participation in the Feb 27th XMMA card and he confirmed they will both be taking part in their scheduled bouts later this month in Montreal.

Baroni’s management has been asked but have not yet responded when asked if the New York Bad Ass will still be competing in Canada this month.

This quote was taken from Phil Baroni discussing his Strikeforce bout in May.

The fight is at welterweight and will take place May in Seattle. Ive started my training camp at Extreme Couture in Las Vegas. Im 205 now an yes I will use Stevia to help me get back down to 170lbs. Coleman has turned me on to Stevia. I used it while training for my last 3 fights. Coleman used it to make 205 an he could not even train for the fight. I think fighting at 170 and on stevia I will be the first STRIKE FORCE welterweight champion.

Im very happy to be fighting in STRIKE FORCE for Scott Coker again. Having done business with Scott Coker in the past, I could not be any happier that he has the CBS an Showtime tv deal. Everyone I have spoken with feels the same way I do from Frank Shamrock to Monte Cox, from Josh Thomson to TJ Thompson from Kevin Randelman to Chuck Zito. From Kung Le to Bruce Lee. I think pretty much the MMA World is happy about this.

Honest promotors are hard to come bye an Im glad to be fighting for one of the few out there.
