Mike Whitehead Victorious at M-1 Challenge – October 29 Results
M1 Challenge is a series of fights around the world that pits 10 teams of MMA prospects representing countries against each other. Unlike the IFL which was a team league where fighters represented cities that they did not originate from, M-1 has their teams comprised of fighters who are citizens of the countries that they represent. Competing in pools of 5 teams, the winners of each pool at the end of the year will face off in the M-1 Challenge 2008 Finale. After holding previous Challenge events in Holland, Russia, Spain, Korea, and England, M-1 took their event to Kansas City, Missouri where teams from Japan, Spain, France and Korea faced each other in this unique event. Japan defeated Spain 4-1 while Korea upset France 3-2. Each team fight is only scheduled for two rounds.
In addition to the two team battles, there were two SuperFights on the card. UFC veteran Mike Whitehead quickly submitted Leo Pla with a Guillotine. In the other SuperFight, local favorite Bobby Voelker beat Pride veteran Amir Rahnavardi by Decision.
