Bears Den Announces Manitoba Amateur MMA Card
Bears Den MMA, out of Peguis Manitoba, has announced the sixth edition of their exhibition MMA fights. Entitled Underground Warriors: Exhibition Fights VI, the card takes place in Peguis First Nation and is being promoted by Chris Stranger Jr. The card will occur on November 1st at the Peguis School Gymnasium about two hours out of Winnipeg.
The main event features amateur fighters Louis Spence and Rene Catcheway. Catcheway is a former boxer out of Winnipeg’s Pan Am Boxing Club who is transitioning to mixed martial arts. This transition by the Aboriginal fighter will be the subject of a future documentary being produced by the APTN television station. Film crews will be at the event filming the fight as Catcheway faces Louis Spence, a fighter who trains out of the Bears Den club. “These guys are both strikers, so it should be a good fight – could be a bloody fight because they both have a good stand up game, ” claims Chris Stranger, the promoter and trainer of Bears Den MMA.
Also on the card are a few Bears Den students who recently medalled at the October 18th Manitoba Open for Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu:
- Donovan Thomas, who took Silver in No-Gi competition, faces Devon Pelletier
- Troy (Clifton) Stevenson, Gold in No-Gi, matches up with Dylan Desjarlais
- Justin Manningway, Bronze in No-Gi, will fight Nelson Gomez
Tickets are $20 and $25 and can be purchased from Michelle Stranger who can be contacted at 204-918-1787 and 204-219-8421.
