UFC 88 – Breakthrough Results
Rashad Evans knocked out Chuck Liddell in dramatic fashion with a Liddell like overhand right bomb that knocked him right out in the last manner anybody expected this fight to end. They both were throwing punches and as Liddell was going for a big uppercut, Rashad used his speed and beat him to the punch with a big overhand right in the 2nd round.
In the semi main event Rich Franklin wore down former training parter and friend Matt Hamill. Franklin picked him apart and landed shots at will slowing down the wrestling standout. Eventually Franklin landed a hard body kick that dropped Hamill and followed up with a few punches before the ref pulled him off for the TKO win in the 3rd. Lots of respect from both fighters after the fight, as Franklin shows his true class.
Dan Henderson beat up Rousimar Palhares for 3 rounds looking to be in trouble in a few submission attempts but didn’t end up being in serious danger and landed alot of punches, but surprisingly Palhares didn’t look like he got hit as far as markings, but he sure slowed down by the time the fight was over. Both fighters gave it their all and were tired. Henderson takes a 3 round unanimous decision but Palhares shows his submission prowess.
Nate Marquardt won by tko in the 1st over Martin Kampmann as he landed a hard head kick and followed up with punches before Kampmann crumpled against the cage and the referee was forced to stop the action giving Marquardt the TKO victory in the 1st.
Dong Hyun Kim won by split decision over Matt Brown in the first fight of the pay per view.
