Its Official – Randy Couture to Return at UFC 91
Tuesday afternoon at a UFC press conference, the UFC officially announced the return of Randy Couture back to the cage. Couture’s first fight will be November 15 in Las Vegas versus Brock Lesnar at UFC 91. The winner of the Couture/Lesnar fight will be the UFC Heavyweight champion. Additionally, the winner of the Nogueira/Mir fight will fight the winner of Couture/Lesnar to determine the true champion as Nogueira currently holds the interim belt.
Since defeating Gabriel Gonzaga in August of 2007, Couture has been embroiled in court battles with the UFC after he resigned with two fights left in his UFC contract. During the hiatus from UFC, Couture filmed the Scorpion King 2 film, release his autobiography, and focused on his Xtreme Couture gyms.
Citing age and a yearning to fight again, Couture and the UFC compromised on a new contract to get Randy in the ring again. Fedor Emelianenko was not announced as being signed although the UFC is working to get a Fedor/Randy bout in the UFC cage.
